The Fraser Valley Humane Society was first formed in the Summer of 1999, when the Fraser Valley (BC, Canada) was put on flood alert.
With the cooperation of four veterinary facilities and volunteers from the community, we were able to establish a telephone hot-line and database to register and coordinate foster homes for pets in need.
This database was available to other areas as needed, and therefore a network of help was created.
Today we have grown to serving our community with our own Adoption Centre and 17 supportive participating Veterinarian Clinics.,
The FVHS works to eliminate the endless suffering of strays and abandoned cats in our community. We believe in a humane approach to animal welfare and our no-kill centre provides an alternative thought programs that manage population control.
WHAT WE DO FOR THE COMMUNITY
We provide a temporary home and veterinary care for stray or abandoned cats. All cats in our care are viral tested, spayed / neutered, vaccinated, de-wormed, de-flead, and tattooed prior to adoption. Cats in our care are well socialized at our centre prior to placement in a permanent , caring home.
We also assist in public awareness of animal welfare and spay/neuter promotion, provide community support though our in-house programs, and education programs for the local schools

In 2005 the FVHS changed our policy to no longer adopt ANY kittens or cats that are not already spayed or neutered and tattoo identified.
Following this decision, Pediatric Spay and Neuter became an integral component to further reduce pet overpopulation.
Dr. Susan Calverley , DVM helped the FVHS to research and implement this procedure.
